Clear Creek Park is Shelbyville/Shelby County’s original and oldest park and is the main hub of activity for the park system. The park is 130 acres in size, named after Clear Creek which runs through parts of the park and creates Lake Shelby. The park was established in 1974. A large part of the park land was donated by Dr. A.L. Birch, a local veterinarian, who’s family farm once was Clear Creek Park. His generous donation started everything that we have today as the park system has grown to over 900 acres with 12 parks spread throughout the county. Dr. Birch’s original family home, the Birch House, still stands today and is used for meeting space, office space, family reunions, wedding/baby showers, boy scouts, girl scouts and more and is home to the Shelby County Parks Foundation, an organization whose mission is to financially support the park system as a whole. Other parts of Clear Creek Park was acquired through a grant process and combined with Dr. Birch’s donation created the 130 acres of the park.
Clear Creek Park has so much recreation to offer the citizens of Shelby County and surrounding counties. The Clear Creek Family Activity Center is a 40,000 square foot facility that has indoor pool with lap and open swimming, outdoor pool with water slide, basketball courts, weight room & cardio equipment, fitness classes, after school program, indoor walking track, dry sauna, rentals, memberships & daily admissions and multiple other program activities. The FAC is open 7 days a week. Play a round of golf at Clear Creek Golf Course, enjoy the serenity at Lake Shelby by enjoying fishing, boating, picnicking or camping, enroll your kids into the athletic program or C3 Camps, rent a facility, walk the trails or play tennis or basketball on the outdoor courts. There is plenty to do!
