Clear Creek Park is Shelbyville/Shelby County’s original and oldest park and is the main hub of activity for the park system.  The park is 130 acres in size, named after Clear Creek which runs through parts of the park and creates Lake Shelby.  The park was established in 1974.  A large part of the park land was donated by Dr. A.L. Birch, a local veterinarian, who’s family farm once was Clear Creek Park.  His generous donation started everything that we have today as the park system has grown to over 900 acres with 12 parks spread throughout the county.  Dr. Birch’s original family home, the Birch House, still stands today and is used for meeting space, office space, family reunions, wedding/baby showers, boy scouts, girl scouts and more and is home to the Shelby County Parks Foundation, an organization whose mission is to financially support the park system as a whole.  Other parts of Clear Creek Park was acquired through a grant process and combined with Dr. Birch’s donation created the 130 acres of the park.2014 - Summer 400
