Lifeguard Course Information

Prerequisites:  Must achieve to be admitted into the class.

  • 15 years of age on or before the final scheduled session of the course taken.
  • Swim 300 yards continuously using these strokes in order -
    1.  100 yards front crawl.
    2.  100 yards breaststroke (using a pull, breathe, kick and glide sequence)
    3.  Mixture of the two strokes.
  • Retrieve a 10 pound brick in 7-10 feet of water and swim 20 yards with your head above water.

TIP:  If you do not swim frequently we strongly recommend that you start practicing now for the swim test!  It will pay off!

All candidates will be required to pass a written exam and in water scenarios.

All candidates will receive American Red Cross training for the following:

Lifeguard Training, Professional Rescuer CPR, Automated External Defibrillation (AED), Preventing Disease Transmission and First Aid.

Completion of the Lifeguard Training does not guarantee a job with the parks and recreation department.

Sat. May 9th 9:00am - 5:00pm
Sun. May 10th 9:00am - 5:00pm
Fri. May 16th 5:00pm - 9:00pm
Sat. May 17th 9:00am - 5:00pm
Sun. May 18th 9:00am - 2:00pm (test)

Cost $160.00

Includes the Lifeguard Training book and a CPR mask.

Must prepay for the course.  Any person who does not pass the prerequisites will receive a full refund.  Once the class begins there will be no refunds. Please come to the FAC to register prior to start of course.

Recertification Options

There will be a short review class before all scheduled challenges.

Challenge Guidelines:  Current lifeguards or past lifeguards who let their certification lapse for less than one year may take one challenge.

In order to successfully complete a challenge guards must pass a written test and test out of the required skills sets.

1st Aid only $15.00
CRP/PR $45.00 (Includes: AED, Disease Transmission)

You must bring your certification cards with you or provide us with the Red Cross chapter and dates in which the course was completed.
